Rourkela: At least 10 police officials including city DSP were injured in a clash with the slum area residents of Chhend Colony area here on Saturday morning. Five civilian sustained injuries in retaliation too, DSP Ranjit Bhoi, who received fracture hand in the scuffle, said.
 
The incident occurred when a team of police raided the area to arrest some accused. The local people had a tussle with police protesting their action. Later, they pelted stones and attacked cops with weapons.
 
“A team was conducting raid in the area to arrest some accused who were charged with demolishing a temple. When we tried to nab them, their relatives and neighbours pelted stones and attacked us with sharp weapons leaving nine of our constables injured”, Bhoi said.
 
The police team retaliated in which five persons received minor injuries. All are undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Additional forces have been deployed in the area to maintain peace, he added.
 
At least 43 people have been arrested so far and hunt is on to nab others involved in the clash, the DSP informed.
