Jagatsinghpur: A special squad of the district police today arrested the main accused in the Kujang cracker explosion case Subhas Rout from Pudducherry almost 50 days after the gruesome incident. Subhas was arrested from a place about 30 kilometre away from the main township.

Subhas Rout happens to be a banua (one who explodes crackers) by profession and also doubles up as a worker in a construction company. Questions are being raised as to how Subhas went all the way to a far off place like Pudducherry?

The incident had taken place on November 16, 2011, at Kujang market in Jagatsinghpur district during a procession of a trade union headed by Barabati-Cuttack BJD MLA Devashish Samantray. Four persons have already died in the incident while another four persons were strugglimng for life in hospital.

The incident had triggered a bitter war of attrition among Devashish Samanatray, Jagatsinghpur MLA Bishnu Dash and Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha member Bibhu Prasad tarai on one side and their bitter rival Paradip MLA and former minister Dr. Damodar Rout on the other side.

The Jagatsinghpur police and IG of Crime Branch are conducting simultaneous inquiries into the matter. The Lokpal too had ordered for an IG level probe into the incident.
