According to sources, the association had earlier announced to continue protest till October 3.

The striking advocates are demanding the arrest of all the accused involved in the brutal assault on advocate Debi Prasanna Pattnaik who was allegedly beaten up by police personnel on August 28.The lawyers have been observing cease-work strike since August 30 in protest of the incident.

Even though the Crime Branch of Odisha Police had arrested two persons including a Home Guard, the lawyers have been demanding arrest of other four accused involved in the attack.

Judicial work in all the courts in Cuttack including High Court has remained paralysed due to the cease-work strike being observed by the lawyers.

Earlier, the Bar Council of India had also sought intervention of the Supreme Court to resolve the issue raised by the lawyers in Cuttack.

In a letter, the Chairman of the Bar Council Manan Mishra urged Chief Justice of India and the other companion judges alleged lack of concern on part of the State government towards the sensitive matter.

Mishra alleged that the Odisha government is adamant and not taking any action against the erring police officials who assaulted the members of the Bar without any reason.
