Police-lawyer spat: CB fails to submit charge sheet yet again, hearing deferred

Cuttack: Hearing in connection with the alleged assault of a lawyer by police was deferred till Thursday as Crime Branch failed to submit the charge sheet before the Orissa High Court yet again today.

The Crime Branch has sought more time from the Orissa High Court to submit the charge sheet following which the hearing was deferred till Thursday, sources said.

Earlier on Monday, the hearing was done under the supervision of the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court but the investigation agency could not submit the charge sheet.

Earlier the Orissa High Court had directed the State investigating agency to submit a charge sheet by November 12. The High Court had also directed the State government not to revoke the suspension order of the constable who was allegedly involved in the assault of the lawyer in Cuttack, which triggered the ongoing cease-work agitation.

On the other hand, lawyers of the Orissa High Court Bar Association will continue their cease-work stir till Wednesday.
