Bhubaneswar: Acting tough against unauthorised parking, the Twin City Commissionerate Police on Wednesday collected Rs 1,82,800 as fine from as many as 757 motorists on charges of illegal parking in twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

Requesting motorists not to park their vehicles on congested roads in the twin cities, the Commissionerate Police took to social media to inform about the hefty fines collected from the rule offenders. During the drive, the Twin City police charged a penalty of Rs 500 per vehicle parked in restricted zones in various parts of the Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

While many vehicle owners especially cars which cause considerable traffic issues in both the cities have welcomed the move by the Commissionerate Police, some others have urged the police to take action after designating parking places in public areas.

“It is a good step, but the administration should impose fine on wrongly parked vehicles after arranging parking space in the city” said a car owner.

In view of the implementation of Motor Vehicles Amendment Act 2019 from September 1, 2019 by the Centre with an aim to overhaul country’s transportation laws through harsher penalties, the Commissionerate Police has pulled up its socks to introduce several measures for streamlining traffic in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

The police has recently launched drone surveillance on the entire stretch of road from Rabindra Mandap to Airport and declared it as ‘No Overtaking Zone’.
