Police bust cattle trafficking racket, rescue more than 100 cows

Angul: Police busted a cattle trafficking racket and seized four trucks carrying more than 100 cattle near Banarpal area of the district  today.

After receiving a tip-off on the illegal transportation of cattle from Athmallik to Kolkata, a team of cops reached the spot and conducted raids.

As per reports, more than 100 cows were rescued and one truck driver was detained by the police for interrogation.

A police investigation is currently underway to get more information about others who are involved in the racket.

Last month, tension gripped Silang area of Balasore as locals seized a cattle-laden pickup van and detained three youths in connection with the case.

According to sources, some local residents spotted a vehicle carrying cattle near Tailak chhak in the district. Suspecting that the cows were being transported for slaughter, hundreds of locals crowded the area and stopped the vehicle.
