Bhubaneswar: The scientific team and police on Sunday started investigation into the alleged rape case of a deaf and speech-impaired girl student of radio repair work at central government-run Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for the Handicapped (VRCH) in Pokhariput area.
 
Sources said, the officials interrogated the owner and staff of the lodge from where the accused, Dhiraj Srivastav was arrested on Saturday night.
 
On the other hand, interpreter and secretary of Satyabhamadevi College for Hearing Impaired Nirajalaxmi Mohapatra quoting the victim said, “On August 7, the accused had taken the girl to room number 135 of the lodge, where committed the heinous crime between 10 am and 4pm. Then after he dropped the girl at her place.”
 
The matter came to light after the 20-year old girl lodged an FIR at Mahila police station. Acting on the complaint, police raided different places and arrested Srivastav from a lodge near Baramunda last night.
 
Few days back, Srivastav, an instructor at the centre allegedly took the fever-ridden victim to his house promising her better healthcare and raped her, they added. Also, he threatened her of dire consequences if the matter comes to light.
 
The frightened girl, after being silent for some days mustered confidence and revealed the ordeal to her batch mates, who took up the matter and lodged a complaint with the police.
 
“We have registered a case against the accused under Section 376 of IPC,” Pradip Pattnaik, ACP (Zone I) Bhubaneswar said.
