Rourkela: Two hardcore Maoists involved in several offences were arrested from Barsuan forest area in Sundargarh district during a joint search operation by security forces early today. Superintendent of Police, Rourkela, Himanshu Lal said the two rebels identified as Birabal Gudia (23) and Chandradev Tirkey alias Charu (24) were nabbed while they were moving on a road in Barsuan forest area.

Acting on a tip-off, the joint search team comprising jawans of CRPF, state police and district voluntary force (DVF) started combing operation in the area and nabbed the two in the wee hours. Gudia hailed from Tiriliposh village in West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand and Charu belonged to nearby Damlui village of the same area.

Both were involved in Maoist violence in Odisha including Jareikela outpost, Bisra tahasil office blast under Bisra police station and Bandamunda railway cabin blast in 2011 in Sundargarh district. Both were produced before a local court which remanded them to jail custody.
