Berhampur: Police have arrested three persons in connection with the gang rape of an 8-year-old girl that took place on October 31 in Polasara area of Ganjam district.

"All the three persons involved in the incident have been arrested but the possibility of involvement of other persons can't be brushed aside so investigation is still on," Ganjam Superintendent of Police Brijesh Ray said.

Earlier, Ray had released sketches of the other suspects involved in the case.

As per the complaint report, the minor girl was kidnapped and allegedly gang raped by three persons in a farmland in Balichhai area of Polasara.The survivor is reportedly undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Preliminary investigation had revealed that three robbers allegedly broke open the door and entered the house of the girl when her family members were fast asleep. After looting valuables, the miscreants kidnapped the girl and gang raped her before fleeing the spot.

Following the incident, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had made shocking allegations claiming the involvement of supporters of local BJD MLA in the gruesome incident.
