Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday recalled the contributions of eminent Odia freedom fighter Parbati Giri during his Mann Ki Baat address, paying tribute to her role in India’s freedom movement and her lifelong commitment to social service. Describing her as a source of inspiration, the Prime Minister said several freedom fighters had not received the recognition they truly deserved, and Parbati Giri was one such figure.
In the final Mann Ki Baat programme of the year, the PM Modi said Parbati Giri played a significant role in India’s struggle for Independence. He noted that she joined the freedom movement at the young age of 16, participating in the Quit India Movement, and went on to make notable contributions during a crucial phase of the national movement. He described her as a great Odia freedom fighter whose dedication and courage left a lasting impact.
Birth Centenary On January 26, 2026
The Prime Minister informed listeners that Parbati Giri’s birth centenary will be observed on January 26, 2026. He said the occasion would provide an opportunity for the nation to remember her sacrifices and contributions, and to draw inspiration from her life and work.
Commitment To Social Service After Independence
Recalling her work after Independence, the Prime Minister said Parbati Giri devoted her life to social welfare and the upliftment of people. He noted that she established several orphanages and remained actively involved in service-oriented initiatives, reflecting her deep concern for the marginalised and the needy.
In his address, PM Modi said, “Many Freedom Fighters did not get the recognition that they should have been given. One such freedom fighter is Odisha's Parbati Giri. In January 26, 2026 her birth centenary will be celebrated. She joined the Quit India Movement at the mere age of 16. After the freedom struggle, Parbati Giri ji devoted her life to social work and welfare of people. She also established many orphanages. Her inspiring life will always serve as a motivation for every generation.”

Concluding his remarks, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Parbati Giri in Odia, saying, “Mu Parbati Giri Ji nku sradhanjali arpana karuchi”.
