Plus II exam evaluation: Odisha mulls digitisation of process

Evaluation system for the Plus II (+2) annual examinations in Odisha may undergo a major change from the current academic year, with answer sheet checking likely to be conducted online, School & Mass Education (S&ME) Minister Nityananda Gond hinted on Tuesday.

According to the Minister, the use of AI surveillance ensures transparency and smooth conduct of examinations, eliminating chances of any malpractice. Preparations are now underway to introduce an online evaluation mechanism, particularly for the Arts stream.

The Minister said the department is working on a plan to digitise the evaluation process so that answer scripts can be assessed online within a fixed time period. However, the final decision will depend on budget approval, which is yet to be finalised. Once the budget is cleared, the proposal can be formally implemented.

S&ME Minister Gond added that necessary funds will be allocated to put the supporting systems in place. The department has already prepared a proposal, and the system will become operational after receiving the required approvals.

Meanwhile, the Minister reiterated that AI-powered cameras will continue to be used to safeguard exam question papers. He recalled that AI cameras were deployed during the last Higher Secondary Examination, which helped prevent any question paper leak.

“The S&ME department has been focusing on bringing about transparency in the examination process. A proposal has been sent for the evaluation of answer sheets online. After finalisation (obtaining necessary approval), steps will be taken for other requisite arrangements. Funds will be allocated accordingly, and evaluation will be done online,” the Minister said.

“Implementation of the new mechanism will help save time, and evaluation of the answer sheets can be carried out in a time-bound manner,” the Minister added.
