Bhubaneswar: Plastic eggs are back to haunt consumers in the State’s capital. Some students from Nayapalli area lodged a police complaint last evening alleging sale of plastic eggs at a store. Basing on the complaint, a shopkeeper was detained by police.

As per reports, the complainants bought some eggs from a shop in Nayapalli. While boiling the eggs at home, they found that the eggs melt in water within few minutes. Suspecting something wrong with the eggs, they went to the shop to inquire. However, an argument ensued between the students and shopkeeper over the matter. Later, the students lodged a complaint at the Nayapalli police station.

“When I put the eggs on soil, it got dissolved immediately; same happened, when I boiled them. Truth will be known only after Forensic examination but one thing I know for sure is that these plastic eggs are harmful for health,” said Uttam Barala, the complainant.

Earlier in 2017, similar reports of sale of fake eggs had surfaced in Odisha following which a probe was ordered by the State government.
