Rourkela: Piling work of the second bridge over river Brahmani at Balughat here will begin on Monday, informed Chief General Manager (CGM) of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) Dharmendra Sarangi yesterday.

In a bid to review and expedite the project, Sarangi visited the construction site yesterday. During his visit, he assured that the construction work will be completed within two and a half years.

“Currently, there is no obstruction in construction of the bridge. Dates for structure construction of all three packages from Biramitrapur to Barkot have already been given on May 23. Agreement for the rest of the packages has also been signed in the meantime,” said NHAI Chief General Manager.

Meanwhile, BJP and BJD are blaming each other for delay in construction work of the project.

“The State government did not give environment clearance for eight months which is the reason for delay in the construction. After Centre’s pressure, the appointment date was finally given on May 23,” said BJP leader Nihar Ray.

On the other hand, BJD leader Sarda Nayak questioned, "Was the Central Government unaware of the fact that land acquisition process for the project was not completed?"

The Centre should apologise and accept that the 15-day time period given by it to begin the project works was a wrong decision, he added.
