Cuttack: Terming the recently ended hostage crisis in the state as a melodrama and eyewash, a petitioner on Tuesday filed a PIL in the High court seeking CBI probe into the case.

Petitioner Manas Parida in the PIL has mentioned that the whole issue was a pact between the state government and the Left wing extremists and by doing so the government has jeopardized the lives in the state.

“We demand for an impartial probe so that the culprit would be punished,” Parida’s lawyer Arun Kumar Budhia said.

This apart, President of Utkal Bharat and former MP Kharabela Swain on Tuesday flayed Malkangiri District Collector R Veneel Krishna alleging him of being irresponsible and reckless during his visit to the Maoist-infested area, Chitrakonda, which resulted in his abduction by the ultras on February 16. The former BJP MP has demanded the transfer of the DC and criticized the government over the hostage issue.

“The DC is irresponsible and does not have the right to decide. He should be transferred immediately. They were successful in getting their demands fulfilled and they would attack in the future too,” President of Utkal Bharat and former MP Kharabela Swain said.

NCP leader Arun Dey on Monday also demanded to suspend green hunt operation against the rebels.

“The government should stop the green hunt operation and carry out development works for the improvement of the area,” NCP leader De said.

However, senior BJD leader and Rajya Sabha MP Pyari Mohan Mohapatra has justified the action of the government.

“The government took the steps to bring out the DC alive,” Senior BJD leader P M Mohapatra said.
