Bhubaneswar/Phulbani: The whole Kandhamal district continues to reel under spine-chilling cold waves with night temperature of Phulbani town falling to 3.2 degree Celsius on Saturday night. According to locals, dense fog engulfed the hill town in the morning severely affecting vehicular movements in the region for hours.

The chilling effect was too evident as it paralysed normal life forcing the locals to stay indoors until noon. Interior pockets of the district including Daringbadi, Kotagarh and Raikia were also no escape from clutches of the cold.

Notably mercury in Phulbani dipped to 5.2 degree Celsius on Friday night.

Local weathermen said cold waves from North and North-eastern Himalayas, after a week’s brief lull due to the cyclonic storm over Bay of Bengal, are likely to get intensified in next 24 hours.

Figures with the local meteorological department showed Baripada in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday recorded 7 deg Celcius followed by Sundargarh (7.4) and Keonjhar (8).
