Bhubaneswar: Amid stiff resistance of the lawyers in western Odisha to boycott ULBs polls, the State Election Commission has declared poll date for two civic bodies of the western region.

According to the election commission, the two urban bodies, Phulabani and G Udaygiri, will go to the polls on December 2 while the chairman will be elected on December 9.

The candidates can file nomination papers between November 11 and 16 while scrutiny will be held on 18 and withdrawal of papers on 21 in the same month, official sources added.

The September 19 urban elections were stalled in nine districts of western Odisha as the lawyers called for a poll boycott movement demanding High Court bench in their region. However, they called off the strike on September 29 after chief minister Naveen Patnaik recommended the Centre to set up High Court benches in western and southern parts of the State.
