The mishap occurred at around 6.44 am when the train was moving from Dongoaposi towards Chhatrapur.
Such was the impact of the derailment and consequent collision that the empty wagons crashed into the foot-over bridge, station building and other infrastructure at the station.
Chaotic scenes were witnessed at the railway station after the accident.
Three deaths were reported while many people were trapped under the mangled wagons and debris for hours.
Immediately, rescue and restoration work were launched by the railway officials at the Korei station.
Both the lines were blocked after the derailment and several trains had to be cancelled, partially cancelled or diverted on the route.
