Patient’s death triggers tension at city hospital

Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed at a private hospital here after the death of a patient on Tuesday.

According to reports, Lipsa Rani Sahu (9), daughter of Chitaranjan Sahu, was admitted to Sunshine Hospital located in Laxmisagar area here on March 3 and had a heart operation on March 4.

She, however, died today at the hospital despite doctors’ claim of a “successful operation”.

The father of the deceased alleged that doctors’ negligence had led to death of her daughter.

“Hospital authorities first said around Rs 1.30 lakh would be required for the operation. But yesterday they handed me a bill of Rs 3.60 lakh,” Chitaranjan told reporters.

He also alleged that the hospital had shifted her daughter from ICU to ward after he failed to deposit the said amount.

Hospital authorities denied any negligence on their part.
