Bhubaneswar: Mystery shrouds the death of a patient, who allegedly died after falling from sixth floor of AIIMS Bhubaneswar building in the wee hours today. The deceased, identified as Satyajit Mohanty of Jakara in Khurda district, was undergoing treatment in the ICU of the premier hospital since January 17.

Though it is still unclear how the incident occurred, family members raised questions on the security arrangements for patients in ICU. They said ICU patients are kept under strict supervision of doctors and nurses besides deployment of security guards round-the-clock.

As the windowpane of the ICU was broken, it is suspected that Mohanty died after jumping down the building as he was reluctant to stay at the hospital. Mohanty was even forcing family members to take him home and his mental condition was also not stable, sources said.

The family members informed that Mohanty had fallen sick due to intake of excessive alcohol and was immediately rushed to Khurda hospital.Later, he was shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar after his condition deteriorated on January 17.

This is not for the first time that a patient died after falling off the AIIMS Bhubaneswar. On April 2017, one Subas Jena of Dhenkanal had died after falling off the sixth floor of the orthopedics department.
