Bhubaneswar: Seeking a thorough inquiry into the alleged involvement of politicians in the illegal mining trade in Odisha, BJP today asked the state government to move a resolution in the assembly in order to completely ban export of iron ore and manganese from the state.

"If the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is sincere about putting a ban on the export of finite mineral resources, a resolution should be passed in the House that Odisha does not want its mineral to be exported," BJP legislature party leader K V Singhdeo said in the assembly by raising the issue during zero hour.

Stating that writing letters or making statements were not sufficient to stop export of mineral from the state, the BJP leader said that the state government should move a motion for passing in the House. "Mineral being finite resources, it should be utilised carefully. Though Justice Shah Commission has favoured a ban on the export, the state should pass a resolution," he said.

BJP had been claiming that the multi-crore mining scam would not have been possible without the help of politicians, Singhdeo said adding that now the Justice Shah Commission had indicated it in its interim report.

Independent member Pratap Sarangi supported the BJP. "There should be a ban on the export of minerals", Sarangi said adding that an impartial agency must be asked to probe into the alleged politicians involvement in the illegal mining activities.
