Partners in crime: Arrested accused alleges Jankia police involvement
Khurda: In a startling development, an accused in numerous dacoity cases on the inter-state NH16 has alleged that officials of Jankia Police Station in Khurda took money to assist him.
In his statement, the accused, Sumanta Biswal alleged that officials of the police station took hefty sums for assistance in every dacoity he committed.
After the allegations surfaced, action has been taken against the involved police officers, reported sources. As per sources, the concerned IIC of the police station has been transferred while the constable has been suspended.
“I ordered two DSP-rank officers to conduct an enquiry after reports of indiscipline were received against the constable and the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of the police station. Based on the enquiry reports, I have transferred the IIC to the headquarters while the constable, Siddeswara Mohapatra, has been suspended and enquiry is pending against him. If something more is revealed in the enquiry, appropriate action will be taken against him,” said Khurda SP, Dipti Ranjan Ray.
However, exemplary action has been demanded against the errant officials.
Sisir Kumar Parida, former president of Khurda District Lawyers’ Association, said “The involvement of the police officials in crime is condemnable. How can ordinary people expect justice from the system? They should be removed from their posts rather than being suspended.”
