Bhubaneswar: The partial shutdown of Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) at Bhubaneswar for re-carpeting of its runway which was scheduled to begin from today i.e 1st November 2019 has been postponed for a month.

Director of BPIA Suresh Chandra Hota informed that the partial closure of the airport will take effect from 1st of December 2019 and likely to continue till 31st March 2020.

"Due to the work, the airport would be partially shut from 10.30 pm to 5.30 am every day from December 1 till March 31 next year," he said.

The delay in the commencement of the work is because of internal matters of the AAI, Hota said.

Flights will be rescheduled from December and the runway would be closed in two phases.

"We hope to complete the recarpeting work within the deadline of March 31, 2020," Hota added.

As per prior reports, all the operations of the airport will remain closed from 10:30 PM to 5:30 AM daily during the period.

Similarly, thereafter, the airport will be opened at night and the shutdown will take effect from 10:30 AM to 6 PM daily till 30th June 2020.
