Though there has not been much impact of Cyclone 'Montha' in Odisha, even the partial impact has resulted in considerable damage in some parts of the State.
As the storm has moved away, visuals of destruction are now emerging one after another. As per reports, several trees were uprooted due to the strong winds in the Narayanpatna area in the Koraput district. Large trees had fallen across roads, disrupting vehicular movement. Fire service personnel reportedly reached the spot and are clearing the roads by cutting and removing the fallen trees.
The road connecting Pipalpadar and Koradapai villages in the district was jammed with uprooted trees. Additionally, due to heavy rainfall triggered by the cyclone, reports indicate that around 15 mud houses collapsed in Narayanapatna.
Meanwhile, the Odisha government has started a three-day state-wide assessment of damage caused by Cyclone 'Montha', with the district administrations directed to submit detailed reports by the end of this week.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said that Collectors in all the affected districts have been instructed to complete the evaluation within 72 hours.
The Minister added that the assessment will cover paddy, cotton, and vegetable crops, which have reportedly suffered extensive damage in several parts of southern and coastal Odisha.
