Mayurbhanj:  A government-run residential school was locked up by parents and guardians of the students at Udala in Mayurbhanj district today after over the alleged impregnation of a girl student.

According to sources, the enraged parents locked up the main gate of the residential school and staged a protest outside the school demanding action against the main accused and transfer of all the school teachers.

After the matter had come to light last month, the school authority had transferred few staffers, however, the villagers have alleged that no action has been taken against the main accused.

While it is yet to be ascertained whether the accused is a school staffer or an outsider, some villagers have complained of illegal entry of an outsider into the school which was not reviewed by the police or school authority.

"The school has not taken any strong action in the case till now. Few days back an outsider had entered the school late in the night. When we reported about the incident, the school authorities said that they will discuss about the matter. Even the police has not reviewed the complaint yet," said a villager.

Social Welfare Officer of Udala, Suresh Jitbabu, said," The school has been locked up by the villagers. The girl underwent teenage pregnancy test last month. Later, she was reviewed by the Child Welfare Committee and sent home."
