Bhubaneswar/Paradip: The stand- off between stevedores’ association and Paradip port authorities continues though efforts are on to end the deadlock.

The stevedores association and the port authorities are still at loggerheads with the former threatening that it will approach the State and if necessary the central government over the matter.

Paradip Port chairman MT Krishna Babu today said that if necessary we will carry out stevedoring on our own by floating open tenders and inviting other players.

On the other hand Paradip Stevedores’ Association president Mahimananda Mishra said barring Seaways Shipping, if the contract is given to anyone of the empanelled stevedoring firm then the issue will be solved. However, the port authorities do not want that as it’s a conspiracy, he added.

Meanwhile, political parties have also jumped onto the bandwagon with BJD training its guns on BJP over the matter. BJD spokesperson criticized central government’s lack of intervention citing the matter is under the purview of the Shipping ministry and said that why Union Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan who has been vocal on a host of issues pertaining to the State is silent on the matter?

In reply, Odisha BJP vice-president Pratap Sarangi said that Dharmendra Pradhan has done a lot for the development of the port, which is irking the State government and is the reason why they are trying to target him.

Earlier today Odisha transport minister Ramesh Majhi said that the situation has been reviewed by the chief secretary. Efforts are on to end the deadlock, today.
