Papluru encounter best anti-Maoist op by Odisha Police: DGP
Malkangiri: The Director General of Police (DGP), RP Sharma visited Malkangiri district to review the law and order situation today after the Papluru encounter at Chitrakonda block in the district yesterday.
DGP Sharma said that anti-Maoist operations will be intensified in the region in the coming days. Efforts will also be made to ramp up developmental activities in the Swabhiman region. The Papluru encounter was the best operation executed by the Odisha Police till date, he said.
“All the Naxals killed in the encounter were professionally trained. Two SLRs and one Insas rifle were recovered from them.”
Sharma further said “In the last one year, the presence of BSF and SOG (Special Operation Group) have been increased in the district. After the completion of Gurupriya Bridge, the overall security environment has improved in the region.”
Commenting on the participation of people in the elections, Sharma said “If the security situation is good enough, more people will participate in the voting process.”
Apart from Sharma, ADG Operations RP Koche, IG (Intelligence) Ghanshyam Upadhyay and SOG Commandant Anirudh Singh attended the review meeting at the district police headquarters.
On the other hand, identity of 2 other Maoists killed in the encounter has been revealed. They have been identified as Padalam Hantal and Sundarai Hantal of Sindurapali village. In total, five Maoists were killed in an encounter yesterday.
