Jajpur: The additional district judge on Friday sentenced four members of a family to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of their daughter-in-law at Solpata in Panikoili area of Jajpur district in 2014.

he newly-wed woman woman , Kusumlata Sahu was allegedly murdered by her husband and in-laws and her family had then lodged a complaint in this regard.

Based on the allegations, police launched a search and fished out her body from a nearby pond.

Soon after this, police arrested five persons- Kusum's husband, her father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in law and her sister-in-law, on charges of killing her.

While her brother-in-law died in jail last year, four others were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the additional district judge on Friday.

"Based on the statements of 15 witnesses, the additional district judge sentenced life imprisonment to four members of the family in connection with the case. The woman's brother-in-law died in jail in 2018," said government's counsel, Rajendra Nayak.
