Pangolin smuggling racket busted in Malkangiri
Malkangiri: A Pangolin smuggling racket was busted in Malkangiri today. According to sources, the Forest department rescued a Pangolin near MV-10 village and arrested seven persons who were planning to sell the animal for over Rs 1 lakh.
The Forest Department had kept track of the smugglers after receiving information about them from reliable sources. The officials are interrogating the arrested persons to extract more information about the smuggling racket, sources added.
Further investigations will reveal more details about the racket, Malkangiri Ranger informed.
Pradip Marse, DFO, Malkangiri said “We received information that some people are trying to sell a Pangolin. Our officials trapped them by posing as buyers. Six people were arrested in this connection. Later, another person was arrested near MV-10 village. Their statements have been recorded and we have forwarded them to court.”
Earlier on December 8, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch arrested 4 persons in connection with Pangolin smuggling at Ambadiha village under Udala police limits of Mayurbhanj district. Later, 6 more persons were arrested in connection with the case.
