Bhubaneswar: Protesting non-fulfilment of their demands, the State Panchayat Samiti Members' Association is all set to hit the streets from September 4.

The association announced the decision to start the indefinite strike during a press meet today in Bhubaneswar.

According to sources, the Samiti members of the State have been demanding provision of special quarters inside gram panchayat offices, increase in monthly remuneration from Rs 1,880 to Rs 30,000 for elected members, and insurance of up to Rs 10 lakh for on-duty death.

"Despite repeated reminders the State government has not fulfilled our demands, so we have decided to protest for indefinite period," President of Odisha Panchayat Samiti Members' Association Sarat Kumar said.

Earlier in March, hundreds of the members of Panchayat Samiti Members' Association were thrashed by police officials when they tried to barge into the State assembly while staging demonstration in the capital city.
