Tension continues to simmer in Malkangiri after a woman landowner was beheaded over a sharecropping dispute a few days ago. To prevent further escalation, the Odisha government has intensified its intervention.

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister K. V. Singh Deo reached ground zero and held an extensive discussion with both sides involved in the conflict. He engaged with residents of MV-26 and Rakhalguda to chart a pathway of consensus and ensure long-term peace between the two groups.

BJD Constitutes Team

Meanwhile, the BJD has constituted a seven-member team to investigate the root cause of the incident. Although the situation has remained largely normal for the third consecutive day, authorities extended the ongoing internet shutdown until midnight today as a precautionary measure.

Southern RDC Reviews Situation On Ground

Southern Revenue Divisional Commissioner Sangram Keshari Mohapatra also visited the affected area to assess the situation firsthand. Accompanied by the district collector and senior police officials, the RDC interacted with villagers of MV-26 and reviewed the law-and-order scenario.

He assured the community that peace was gradually returning and normalcy would be fully restored. He further promised that the government would provide all necessary assistance to support the affected families and stabilise the area.

“There is a massive loss of property which cannot be expressed in words. I would like to thank the Collector and his team for effectively managing the situation. CM has directed me to visit here, and I am in continuous touch with the concerned officials. All necessary measures will be taken,” said Mohapatra.
