Addressing the Odisha Assembly, the Minister revealed that out of the 315 sanctioned Principal posts, an alarming 261 remain vacant, affecting the overall academic and administrative functioning of these model schools.

The crisis does not end there. The post of Vice-Principal, a key position responsible for academic planning and monitoring, is also severely understaffed — 185 posts are lying vacant across the state. This means that a majority of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas are operating without essential leadership positions, potentially impacting discipline, supervision, and the execution of academic programmes.

Apart from this, the shortage also extends to the teaching cadre. A total of 883 Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) and 665 Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) positions are unfilled. These vacancies directly affect the teaching-learning process, especially in subjects such as Science, Mathematics, and English, where students rely heavily on subject experts.

Many schools reportedly have to depend on guest faculty or redistribute workload among existing teachers, leading to academic gaps.
The Minister’s response covered the status of all 315 Adarsha Vidyalayas across 30 districts, highlighting that the teacher vacancy issue is widespread and not restricted to any specific region. He assured the House that steps are being taken to expedite recruitment and strengthen the human resource base of these model schools.

As education plays a crucial role in the future of students, parents and guardians hope the government prioritises timely recruitment to ensure quality learning in these premier institutions.
