Bhubaneswar: Around 1, 50, 94,321 people in several districts have been affected by the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani which wreaked havoc in Odisha on May 3. As many as 41 persons lost their lives in the cyclone which was one of the worst natural calamities to have hit the state after the super cyclone in 1999.

As per the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), maximum 21 deaths were reported from Puri followed by 5 deaths in Cuttack, 4 each in Khurda, Jajpur and Mayurbhanj while 3 deaths were reported from Kendrapara during cyclone Fani.

Around 5, 08,467 houses were damaged in over 16,000 villages and 52 urban local bodies in the State. Over 54,56,363 livestock were also killed in the cyclone.

Deployment of Response Forces and Others:

20 ODRAF units (Puri -9, Bhubaneswar-7, Khurda-1, Cuttack-1) engaged for road clearance in affected districts

44 NDRF teams (Puri-14, Jagatsinghpur-2, Bhubaneswar-21, Khurda-2, Cuttack-4, Balasore-1) cleared 2,402 km road, 8,860 uprooted trees, 1,168 electric poles and provided medical assistance to 1,541 persons

Additional 6 NDRF teams have been mobilised from Kolkata for deployment in Puri
