OUAT entrance test: Proxy-examinees racket busted

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Sunday busted a gang engaged in arranging ‘fake examinees’ and arrested five persons including two fake candidates.

According to source, Bihar’s Amit Singh and Bhubaneswar’s Ranjit Beura, who are the Marketing staff of a city-based private college, had struck a deal at Rs 5 lakh to arrange a fake examinee to appear the entrance test of Odisha University of Agricultural Technology (OUAT) for one Judhistir Mallick. They had contacted Amiya Bhushan of Bihar and Adarsh Choudhury, a resident of Sikar in Rajasthan for the purpose. They had agreed to pay Rs 3 lakh to Amiya and Adarsh.

However, Adarsh, who was slated to appear the examination, was caught by police during checking. While speaking to the reporters, he claimed that he had agreed for the deal as the financial condition of his family is not good. “I was asked to appear the test for Rs 1.5 lakh. However, I am yet to get a single penny,” he said.

“They (Amit and Ranjit) contacted me to arrange a fake examinee. They had agreed to pay Rs 3 lakh out of which I had to give Rs 1.5 lakh to him (Adarsh),” said Amiya, the broker.

“We had met him (Amiya) as we are in Marketing. We would have got Rs 4 lakh from the real candidate and given half the money to them (Amiya and Adarsh),” said Ranjit Beura, another broker.

While Adarsh is said to have qualified several competitive exams earlier, Amiya Bhushan is working in Delhi after completing his engineering, said sources.

Similarly, the Badagada Police also have arrested a minor who was appearing the test.

As the fake-examinees racket is spread to other states like Bihar and Rajasthan, the Commissionerate Police is all set to go outside the state to probe the incident. “Usually they appear the competitive exams impersonating as examinees for the sake of money. As of now we have traced two persons – a broker from Bihar and fake examinee from Rajasthan. We will send teams to Rajasthan and Bihar,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo.
