Bhubaneswar: A day after OTV telecast on reports of malnutrition cases prevalent near Smart City Bhubaneswar, the administration has rolled up its sleeves to review and tackle the menace.

A team of Khurda district administration today visited Barapita village and other nearby rural areas in the outskirts of the capital city to identify cases of malnutrition in children.

Led by District Welfare Officer (DWO), the team inspected the health condition of one five year-old Munni, the girl whose report of malnutrition was telecast on OTV yesterday.

Speaking on her health condition, the DWO said that since Munni is severely underweight, she will be kept under constant observation for her health and dietary monitoring.

On the other hand, after Munni’s father Jadumani Hembram alleged negligence, the Capital Hospital authorities have assured to streamline the diagnosis and identification process of the suspected malnutrition cases in children so that no one will have to suffer.

“The situation in the local environment has affected Munni’s health. We have decided to monitor her condition so that she completely recovers from illness,” said Khurda DWO Tanima Mishra.

Yesterday, a report telecast on OTV showed many cases of malnutrition affecting the children in Barigodi, Barapita and some other villages nearby Bhubaneswar. The report stated that in last 6 months, as many as 982 children have been diagnosed with symptoms of malnutrition in Khurda district alone.
