Jeypore: Following OTV telecast on negligence of Odisha Government towards Kamala Pujari forcing the administration to invite her for a Ratri Aahar Kendra inauguration ceremony at the Jeypore District Headquarters Hospital, the woman farmer of Koraput was honoured with another chance to inaugurate an Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) in the old Sub-Divisional Hospital (SDH) in the city on Friday.

The newly inaugurated UPHC will provide medical treatment, x-rays, blood tests among other facilities. A doctor and five health staff have been engaged in the primary health centre.

It may be noted that following a telecast by OTV, the state government had approved to open up a health centre at the old SDH building after the shifting of Koraput headquarters hospital to the new sub-divisional hospital campus.

District collector, K Sudarshan Chakravarthy who was also present with Kamala during the inauguration ceremony said, "Specialists will be deployed in the UPHC on the basis of deputation. Our priority would be based on the patient load at the centre. An instruction has been given to the specialists at Jeypore DHH and Koraput Saheed Laxman Nayak (SLN) Medical College and Hospital in the district to visit the UPHC once in a week.”

Kamala, a member of the Odisha Planning Board, had brought laurels for the State by winning the ‘Equator Initiative Award’ in Johannesburg of South Africa in 2002 for preserving hundreds of local varieties of paddy and promoting organic farming.
