OTV Impact: Graveyard cleared of encroachments in Choudwar
Cuttack: The graveyard in Choudwar was cleared off encroachments following reports by OTV recently.
According to sources, around 5,000 locals from ward number 17, 18 and 19 were dependent on the graveyard. However, some land mafia in the area was eying the graveyard land along with the nearby playground and field. The land mafia was conspiring to plot the land the sell it, informed sources.
As per allegations, complaints made to the local tehsildar, civic body and the District Collector were futile.
However, the administration became aware of the encroachments when the issue was reported by OTV. The tehsildar had then promised action in this regard.
Recently, the Choudwar municipality mapped the land and put a ‘no trespassers allowed’ board on the land. The administration has taken around 65 acre of land under its control, sources added.
Thanking OTV for broadcasting the news, local resident Annapurna Panda said “The land mafia had grabbed the land and were planning to sell it. We had complained about the same to the tehsildar and Collector. However, action was taken after we went to OTV. We are very thankful to OTV for getting the encroachments cleared.”
“We are thankful to the media house for reporting the issue which resulted in eviction of encroachments. The administrative officials have mapped the land and marked it as no trespassers zone now,” another local resident Harsha said.
