Koraput: Administrative officials on Thursday swung into action to extend support to three minor siblings who were starving since yesterday following the death of their mother in a forest in Koraput district. OTV had telecast the plight of the children today and within hours the administration came to the rescue of the children.

A team from Dasmantpur block office provided a financial assistance of Rs 10,000 from the Red Cross fund to the minor children along with 20 kg of rice.

Dasmantpur BDO Dambrudhar Mallick informed that the Anganwadi worker has been directed to provide cooked food to the children till completion of the 12th day rites of their deceased mother.

As per reports, the children were looked after by their mother Devaki who reportedly died after falling sick yesterday. Devaki’s husband Bhaskar had died couple of years back.

Sources said Devaki was raising her children by collecting forest produce. Following Devaki’s death, relatives and villagers had offered some food to the minor children. However, the children were forced to starve as nobody came to their rescue today.

Even the financial assistance of Rs 2,000 under the Harishchandra Yojana for the last rites of Devaki was extended to the kids today.
