Voting on for first-ever NAC polls in Champua, Baliguda

Polling for the first ever elections to the newly-constituted Notified Area Councils (NACs) of Champua and Baliguda got underway this morning.

Though polling for these two NAC – with 13 wards each – went on peacefully without any hassles, technical glitches in one of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were reported in Ward 2 of Champua NAC.

Security has been beefed up at all sensitive booths to prevent any untoward incident.

Votes will be counted and results announced on January 21.

Baliguda and Champua NACs have 12,764 and 9,508 voters respectively. For the 13 wards in Baliguda, as many as 42 candidates are in the race and all the three major parties in Odisha – the BJD, Congress and BJP – have fielded their candidates in all the wards. Moreover, there are 3 independent candidates in fray.

For the 13 wards of Champua NAC, 41 candidates are in fray. While the BJD and BJP candidates are contesting all the 13 wards, Congress is in fray in 8 wards. Moreover, there are seven independent candidates in the race.
