‘Vijayawada-Ranchi corridor passing through Odisha will be over by 2018’

Bhubaneswar: The State Works Secretary on Sunday said work of the portion of the Vijayawada-Ranchi corridor passing through Odisha will be completed by 2018.

Nalinikant Pradhan, the Works Secretary, said, “Road construction of around 900 km has been completed and 300km road work at different stages. The delay was due to retender due to slow progress on the part of contractors.”

Expressing similar views, Nabin Chandra Dora, executive engineer, R&B, Jeypore stated, “In Malkangiri and Koraput districts, the State government is keen to expedite work. Due to the retender process the road construction was delayed.”

The highway with 1219 km out of the 1719-km corridor is passing through 12 districts of Odisha.

Notably, the construction of the corridor which will connect the tribal dominated and Maoist-hit districts of Andhar Pradesh, Odisha and Jharkhand was scheduled to be over by 2014.
