Two more farmers kill self allegedly over crop loss, debt burden

Khurda/ Kendrapara: Two more farmers committed suicide today allegedly over crop loss and debt burden. The incidents occurred in Khurda and Kendrapara districts.

According to sources, Jugal Bagsingh, a farmer from Goda village under Begunia police limits of Khurda district hanged himself from a tree today. The family sources have alleged that Bagsingh suffered huge crop loss and unable to bear the burden of debt which he took for farming, he took this extreme step.

Notably, Bagsingh had cultivated around 10 acres of land and he took loans from several people from his village and nearby areas. However, after suffering crop loss he was unable to pay the loans and was also being harassed by some of the lenders, added sources.

Similarly, another farmer, Sridhar Sethi from Palakana village of Kendrapara committed suicide today. Sethi killed himself after jumping into a pond. Family sources have alleged that crop loss and debt burden the reason behind his suicide.
