Tribal youth escapes Maoists attack
Koraput: A tribal youth was narrowly escaped from the Maoists attack at Laumala village under Narayanapatna block of Koraput district on Saturday night.
According to reports, a group of armed Maoists opened fire on Manu Nachika near Nakatipadar ghat at around 11 pm on Saturday when he was going to Narayanapatna.
However, Manu managed to escape the attack and saved his life by hiding in the nearby forest for the entire night before arriving in his village the next morning.
Fearing Maoists attack, Manu had been staying in Narayanapatna for the last two years and yesterday he was going to his village to meet his family members, the reports added
“The Maoists, who did not notice when I went to my village, were waiting for my return. Around 18 Maoists, seven of them being armed, opened fire at me near Laumala village,” said Manu.
“I don’t know why they are targeting me”, Manu added.
Notably, the Red Rebels had brutally killed two persons on January 15 and 17 in the area suspecting them as police informers besides torching houses of two other persons in the district.
It’s worthwhile to mention here that director general of police (DGP) KB Singh, during his recent visit to the district to review Maoists situation, had said the outlawed group is targeting innocent people out of frustration and lack of support.
