‘Three BJD leaders, ex-DGP had close link with D-brothers’

Cuttack: While the commissionerate police has intensified its investigation into the criminal activities of the Dhalasamant brothers, a retired police officer and former IGP Anadi Sahu today made a shocking revelation alleging that three BJD MLAs and former Director General of Police Sanjib Marik had a close link with them.

“Three BJD MLAs—Debasis Samantray (Barabati-Cuttack), Rajashree Mallick (Tirtol) and Pramod Mallick (Niali)—had a close link with the Dhalasamant brothers. Apart from this, these two brothers were close to some BJP and Congress leaders. Though the police has been able to arrest a number of associates of Dhalasamant brothers, its probe into the political link with these two criminal brothers is not moving in the right direction,” Sahu said in a press briefing here this afternoon.

The former IGP also alleged that the former DGP Sanjib Marik had also a close link with the Dhalasamant brothers.

“The former DGP, on a single day had withdrawn Rs 2.5 crore from the Bank of Baroda and Corporation Bank branches at Jayadev Vihar in Bhubaneswar. Though this huge amount was withdrawn from a benami account, the photo of Marik is there in the bank ledger which is evident that he had opened the account. Should the police not arrest him? From where Marik had got such huge amount?” he asked.

Sahu further said that the Dhalasamant had played a major role in the marriage of Marik’s second son. Apart from this, Sushil Dhalasamant, younger brother of Sushant Dhalasamant, had accompanied Marik in a flight to New Delhi.

“Why Marik had gone with Sushil Dhalamant? Who had booked the ticket for him? Police should thoroughly investigate into the incident,” he pointed out.

Countering the allegation, the former DGP said Sahu must have gone off his head.

“I am sure, he has been heavily bribed to give such statement for his publicity,” he pointed out.

Justifying his claim, Marik said he has only one bank account.

“Let the former IGP come out with evidence as to which of my account the money had come. I had no idea about the D-brothers. Moreover, the marriage of my second son was held at the Bhubaneswar Club which organises marriage functions of the Club members. I have the detailed list of marriage expenses,” he said, adding that he would take legal action against Sahu for levelling false charges against him.
