VD College tensed over nomination rejection

Jeypore: Tension prevailed at Vikram Dev autonomous college here today after nomination papers of a vice-presidential candidate were rejected by the college authorities on attendance ground.

The authorities said the aspirant had less that 75 per cent attendance which violates Lyngdoh commission guidelines.

Irate supporters of the candidate vandalized the college furniture and locked the main gate. They staged a sit-in in front of the college demanding reconsideration and blocked the national high way. The incident took place after the list of the candidates was published.

Meanwhile, adequate police forces were deployed at the college.

Notably, nomination for the students’ union election was held yesterday. The final list of the eligible candidates will be announced at 5 pm today after withdrawal of papers by interested candidates.
