Syed Mustaq Ali T20: Services beat Odisha by 4 wickets

Cuttack: Odisha suffered its fourth defeat in the ongoing Syed Mustaq Ali T20 Group-D League tournament after they lost to Services by four wickets at DRIEMS ground here on Thursday.

Put into bat, Odisha lost the wicket of wicket of opener Anurag Sarangi for one run. However, Abhilash Mallick (30) and Biplab Samantray (35) took the score to 71.

The hosts were in trouble after the duo got out with the score at 76-3.

But Abhishek Yadav (52) and Govind Poddar (42 not out) attacked Services bowlers and took the score to 169. After Yadav’s departure in the last over of the match, Alok Sahu faced 2 balls and scored six runs with a huge six. The hosts finally ended their innings at 176 for 4 in 20 overs.

For Services, Raushan Raj, Ritesh Negi and Abhishek Sinha claimed one wicket each.

Chasing the target, the visitors launched blistering attack with openers Aanshul Gupta (39) and Nakul Verma (63) putting on 107 runs in 11.3 overs. Though the Odisha bowlers managed to take quick wickets after the exit of these two openers, it was too late for them to restrict the visitors who won the match with 177 for 6 in 19.2 overs.

For Odisha, Deepak Behera and Biplab Samantray claimed two wickets each while Basant Mohanty got one wicket.

In its next match, Odisha will play against Karnataka at Barabati stadium on Friday.

This was the fourth consecutive defeat for Odisha. The hosts had earlier lost to Mumbai, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
