Subhadra ‘daru’ leaves for Puri

Jagatsinghpur: The ‘sagadi’ or cart carrying ‘daru’ or holy wood for Goddess Subhadra’s idol left Puri this evening after completion of necessary rituals.

All preparations for carrying the daru were done yesterday and the Banajaga team has been waiting the right time to pull the sagadi towards Srimandir. Thousands of devotees thronged the site at Adhanga village in Jagatsinghpur district to bid adieu and offer prayers to the holy tree.

Meanwhile, another group of Banajaga yatris went to Kharipadia village where Lord Jagannath’s daru has been identified, to conduct ‘ankurapon’ and holy bath to the holy tree with 108 pots of water, sources said.

The cutting process of daru for Jagatnnath’s idol would begin from 9th or 10th of this month and will reach Puri by 20th, said Jagannath Swain Mohapatra, a senior Daitapati.
