Puri train arson: NIA undertakes ‘Simulation Exercise’

Puri: With an aim to gather more information on the case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday launched a ‘Simulation Exercise’ into the train burning incident at Puri railway station on November 12.

The exercise will be conducted today and tomorrow.

Sources said with ‘Simulation Exercise’, the NIA will get to know how the fire broke out and how many persons besides main accused Ramchandran Subash were involved and how the fire engulfed one train after another.

NIA officials have written to the district collector asking for cooperation in the exercise, reports said.

Besides, the NIA also sought help from a team of doctors and an ambulance to make the exercise successful, they added.

It may be recalled that a major fire broke out at Puri Station on November 12, in which two coaches each of Nandankanan Express and Tirupati Express and one coach of Puri-Howrah Express were reduced to ashes even though there were no casualties.

Moments later, Ramachandran was arrested from the spot with a knife, a blade and a match box as we reported.

On November 26, the State Government had written to the Center for a National Investigative Agency (NIA) probe into the incident given its complexity.
