Price rise feared as truckers’ stir continues

Bhubaneswar: With the indefinite nation-wide strike called by All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) entering third day today the prices of essential commodities are expected to rise.

According to sources, the State imports more than 90 per cent of its requirement from other States. The prices of essential commodities are going to witness a price hike as the stocks available in the State are going to end by the next two-three days, the sources added.

The transportation system in the State as well as in the country has come to a grinding halt after the truckers’ body went for a strike on October 1 demanding scrapping of the present toll system and ‘one-time’ payment of taxes.

Around 1 lakh 70 thousand trucks from the State out of 87 lakh trucks across the country are taking part in the strike.

Meanwhile, the truckers’ body has warned to continue their stir until their demands are met.
