Odia prof in AP gets 3-yr jail for molesting student

Bhubaneswar: A court in Hyderabad today convicted a visiting professor at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) in Andhra Pradesh for molesting a female student.

The court found Rajat Kumar Mohanty, a native of Cuttack, guilty under Section 354 of IPC and sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him.

Mohanty subsequently got bail and he is going to challenge the verdict in the High Court, inspector of Osmania University police station V. Ashok Reddy said.

The 26-year-old woman had alleged that Mohanty, who was a guest faculty of Linguistics and Phonetics at EFLU there, misbehaved with her after calling her to his room at the guest house on the varsity campus in December 2011.
