Odisha govt not cooperating in chit fund scam probe, SC told

New Delhi: Odisha government is not cooperating with the investigation conducted by CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) into multi-crore chit fund scam in the state, the Supreme Court was told by the amicus curie on Wednesday.

Senior advocate Shyam Divan, who assisted the Supreme Court, appeared before a bench headed by Justice T S Thakur, said that only four-five CBI sleuths are conducting the probe against nearly 44 companies and their officials and the investigation is going nowhere.

He also requested the court to intervene to ensure sufficient number of manpower get involved in the multi-crore scam probe.

Divan said in his application that it was based on media reports and information provided by Alok Jena, whose PIL had originally sought a CBI probe into the chit fund scam.

Notably, on May 9, 2014, the apex court directed the CBI to probe into chit fund scam in West Bengal, Odisha and Tripura.
