N’garh Sugar Mill: Civil disobedience staged

Nayagarh: Demanding arrear payment and reopening of the sugar mill, the employees of the sugar mill, Akhu Chasi Mahasangh and Krushak Sangh on behalf of the Nayagarh Chinikala Banchao Kriyanusthana Committee, resorted to civil disobedience in front of the office of the Nayagarh district collector here on Monday.

The agitators also locked the main gate of the collectorate demanding fulfillment of their long-standing demands.

Apprehending trouble, four platoons of armed police have been deployed in and outside the collectorate, reports said.

It may be mentioned that the sugar cane farmers and the employees of Nayagarh Sugar Mill have continued their agitation since March 4 this year in protest against the lock-out of the mill by the state government.

Besides, they have also resorted to an indefinite fast in front of the collectorate since August 17.

Despite a series of meeting between the representatives of the farmers and employees of the sugar mill with the district administration and the government, no concrete solutions have emerged so far.
